Celery seed
Does anyone know where to get it in Sweden?
I've been to ICA, Life health food store, even the apothecary. No one seems to have it, nor do they know where it can be found. I found a recipe online that I want to try that also includes a few other ingredients that I've never seen here, including hot pepper sauce and liquid smoke. Can anyone give me a good alternative please? Thanks!

Sapphire - don't know about the celery seed, haven't found it either. But the hot pepper sauce and the liquid smoke I have bought. Both were at one of the larger ICA's in the Stockholm area (I see you're near Göteborg but maybe a large ICA there might have them?)
The liquid smoke is a brand called "Try Me", came from New Orleans, and is a hickory smoke. *So* good on BBQ meat, and I use it in a salmon spread that I make around the holidays - yum! I hope you can find a bottle .... otherwise I can look the next time we get to the ICA I mentioned ... it's more than an hour from where we live now.
What are you trying to make?

Sapphire,
We've bought the "Try Me" liquid smoke at the Hemköp in Nordstan (Göteborg), very tasty.
You can buy Louisiana Hot Sauce at this store as well too. Not sure if that is what you are looking for though. Of course Tabasco is available everywhere as well.
Not sure about the celery seed though. Lycka till!

Celery seed can be ordered from Borgeby Kryddgård: http://borgebykryddgard.jetshop.se/. A 50g packet costs 10kr, but if I remember correctly, the freight is several times that. The place is in Bjärred.
I had some a while back, but it's all gone, unfortunately. I 'm doing without until somebody brings some from the US next year.
I don't know about celery seed, but I found celery salt here. Can you sub that? Or how about fennel seed?
As far as tobasco and liquid smoke, both i've found easily at any ica store.
Good luck.

A bit off subject, but for those of you who live in Göteborg, you might want to check out Extreme Foods http://extremefood.se/
The have a nice selection of mexican sauces and corn tortillas and more at what I thought was good prices.

Plus they sell baconnaise and a whole lot of other bacon-flavored products!

Thanks for all your replies. I'll have to look for the hot sauce and liquid smoke next time I shop. I'll ask someone to mail me a package of celery seed from home. In the mean time I'll do without. The recipe I wanted to make I found online at allrecipes _________________ Gillian: Wouldn't you like to change your mind?
