I would say raw sugar, it's low carb being unprocessed. My sambo is on a LCHF diet, works well for for her. Altho, she uses honey from time to time.

Could also check Diabetic food sections.

Thanks for the reply foxpur. Is raw suger beside the other sugar in the supermarket? What is it called? That sounds like a good solution.

raw sugar is often found as

Check the box to make sure it's lower carb... I'm not positive on this (mind you, it's better for you than processed white sugar anyway)

I've just ordered but haven't yet tried Yacon Syrup. I'll post after I use it in something.

I've used Stevia but it leaves an aftertaste.

I should follow up that any Low Carb diet says NO sugar or sugar substiture.. including fruit juice.. BUT, to be honest, you don't have to go overboard to have a stable healthy Low Carb diet.

As I said my Sambo is on one and steady losing weight as long as she is reasonably careful. A slice of pizza or a piece of bread once a week is not a diet breaker.. it COULD go faster a bit if she went 'all out' but what's the point as long as it's steady.

I have the reverse problem, I need to gain weight and my metabolism won't let me after my stroke.. bizarre problem.

(Jack Sprat could eat no fat, his wife could eat no lean...) ???

As Foxpur said, you shouldn't use any sugar or sweeteners on LCHF. It may sound weird until you've tried, but after just a week or two with very little carbs you will find tomato juice to be almost too sweet. Your tastebuds adjusts amazingly and the tiniest sweetnes will taste so much!

Sweeteners will just keep you used to things tasting very sweet, and will make you want to eat more.

Thanks Foxpur. I actually came across that website while looking at some UK based forums. It doesn't seem to be quite as strict as Atkins.

I can vouch for it being effective and allows pretty good meals. I suppose that's the best a diet can offer.

I am not on it, I suppliment my food intake with bread and corn and grains but it doesnt mean seperate meal prep, I like the meals.

Foxpur, I heard Sharon Stone once say that after she had a stroke they put her on a medication that caused her to lose a lot of weight and keep it off.

Maybe that's the same?

@krista: I'll ask my doc on that, maybe that's the problem

I would recommend buying stevia also. I've read the way to avoid the aftertaste is to not put too much in. All you need is a drop or two here and there. Too much and it'll leave a bitter aftertaste.

I have heard about using fruit sugar (fructose). Which I've seen available at a local gym supplement store in our town. I've read that sugars based from fruit aren't that bad for you, because of how your body breaks it down. It's not the same as eating white/brown sugar and what not.

Good luck! Smile

That is not true, on the contrary fructose give a higher response in insuline which makes your body store fat. Which is perfectly logical if you consider that it used to be a good thing to eat fruit in the fall to get a little fatter for the winter. We are made to (well, evolution made us) get fat on fruit (and look at the bears...)!

I should add that that doesn't mean it's neccessarily bad for you, it just isn't a good idea if the plan is to lose weight.

There are some LCHF fruit suggestions, but as with ANY diet: Everything in Moderation amd balance.

Remember these are DIETS, not Die-from-it.

Agree! I meant more that it isn't adviced to add fructos too your diet. Fruit in moderation is probably not too bad, even though a lot of people do skip it or eat very little of it, at least in the beginning. Fruit does contain a _lot_ of sugar (at least the fruit today, which is far from what fruit used to be like).

From the LCHF guilde:

"Healthy and slim individuals can eat one fruit a day, but ill and overweight individuals ought to ration their fruit intake to minimum."
